Thanks to all who worked last Friday at the concession stand. More help is needed for this Friday's homecoming game with a larger-than-usual crowd. Please remember your "fair-share" agreement to keep band fees low by working concessions. If you are able to help, please RSVP to Kim Bennett at or 205-914-3559.

Also, help will be needed from parents of non-senior band members on senior night, October 11, our next and last home game.

Hay Sale

All-State Orchestra

Dr. Lisa Caravan, President of the Alabama Orchestra Association, informed me that they still have several unfilled slots for woodwind, brass, and percussion students. The deadline is quickly approaching (9/29).

The audition deadline for Alabama Orchestra All-State is on September 29.

The Festival is held at University of Alabama in February from the 13-16.

James Ross, an amazing conductor who teaches at Julliard and University of Maryland, will be conducting Overture to Candide and the last movement of Brahms Symphony No. 1. Dr. John Fetter, professor at Eastman School of Music, will be conducting Sinfonia (which is now a full orchestra). They will be playing Brahms Hungarian Dance. No. 5 and pieces by Sibelius, Wagner and etc.

Concession workers needed tomorrow (Friday) for the MHS vs. Centerpoint game. UNA Marching Honor Band

Just a reminder: The University of North Alabama Band will host the 2013 Marching Band Extravaganza, Saturday, September 21. Any student participating in a high school marching band may participate with us. The practice will be held in Braly Stadium this year, and we are moving the practice time back to 11am so students involved with the ACT can still participate. There is a $40 participation fee. Students will receive a t-shirt, medal, lanyard, and various other ‘goodies’ along with literature about UNA. I hope you will have some students interested in spending the day with the UNA Band and performing in a halftime show. UNA Marching Honor Band

Come spend a day with the UNA “Pride of Dixie” and perform with the POD at the half-time show!
September 21, 2013
The Marching Band Extravaganza is open to
all high school band members – including Majorettes, Color Guard members,
and Dance-line members. Also, those 7th & 8th graders who are participating in high school band are welcome to attend. Each participant will receive an extravaganza t-shirt, medal, UNA goodie bag, and free admission to the UNA Game.

There is a $40 fee to participate.


Registration Deadline: Wednesday, September 18
POD Rehearsal: 9am – 10:30am (Braly Stadium)
Saturday Morning Check-in: 9:30am-10:30am (Braly Stadium)
Extravaganza practice with the POD: 11am – 1pm. We will learn drill maneuvers, have sectional time with the UNA members, and then we’ll put the entire production together!

Call to Stadium: 4:30p at south end of stadium warm-up area
Half-time: Join the POD on the field for the finale of the show!
During the game: Perform stand-charts with the POD

How to apply: Print the registration form, fill it out, and send it in with you check or money order. The deadline is Wednesday, September 18, to reserve your spot in the drill!

Chaperones-- Hayden Game

The following have signed up to chaperone for the Moody vs. Hayden game this Friday, September 13th. Students will remain at the band room after school and eat in the multipurpose room before loading the bus. Estimated departure time is 4:15. Anyone else wishing to serve as chaperone should contact Susan Littleton at to be placed on the list (if room still exists on the bus), but all parent chaperones should come prepared to work, including helping with all equipment, uniforms, first aid needs, roll call, water delivery to students, and any other needs that may arise. Thank you!

Neff Letter Jacket Sizing

Neff will be in the band room for letter jacket sizing on Thursday, September 19th, beginning at 2:30. Order forms available from Dr. Sargent. Auxiliary members: Do not ask to get out of class early to come to the band room. You can be fitted after the 3:00 bell while we wait to go to the band expo.

Concession Help Needed

Big "THANK YOU" to all who helped with the concessions last week!! We had a great night, and your help made that possible!

We have another home game this week and need volunteers again! It takes 20 people to efficiently run all our concessions at each home game... 12 people to work the concession stand, 4 people to work funnel cakes, 1 person to work as cashier & take orders for the shaved ice truck, & 3 people to sell programs.

Your continued help is vital to having successful concession sales!

Workers should arrive between 5 & 5:30 PM. I need to know who is coming to ensure your names are on the list of workers we give to the school. This will ensure that you don't have to buy a ticket to get in or pay for parking.

Please plan to stay through the entire game and to help with the clean up after the game. If everyone stays to help, clean up does not take long!!
