UNA Honor Band

From UNA Director of Bands Dr. Lloyd Jones. Application materials will be available in the Moody band room. Apply if interested:

I am pleased to announce that plans have been finalized for the Sixteenth Annual University of North Alabama Invitational Honor Band. The event will be April 26- 28 on the UNA campus. I am attaching the materials here and I will be sending you materials by U.S. Mail in the near future.



The honor band festivities will feature five concert bands and a high school honors percussion ensemble. Membership in the Purple Band will be limited to 75 players; the Gold Band will be composed of approximately 100 players; the 9th-grade band will be composed of approximately 90 players; and the two Junior High bands (6th, 7th, 8th) will be composed of approximately 90 members each to form the White Bands. Members of the Purple Band percussion section will participate in the Honors Percussion Ensemble. All bands will appear in concert on Saturday morning, April 28, in Norton Auditorium on the UNA campus.



The registration fee for players selected for each band will be $50.00. There is no application fee. Two Director’s Choice Scholarship Awards of $1000.00 each will be presented at the UNA Invitational Honor Band concert on Saturday morning to outstanding seniors who choose to continue their education at the University of North Alabama and participate in the Pride of Dixie Bands. This award will be added to any Band Performance Award the student has earned through an audition.



The honor band weekend will feature the President’s Concert which includes a performance by the University of North Alabama Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Studio Lab Band, Jazz Band, and Percussion Ensemble on Friday evening, April 27. All UNAHB participants, parents, and directors will be admitted free of charge.



Applications must be returned no later than March 20. Information regarding motel lodging and nearby restaurants will be sent to you, along with the final selection results and invitations, by April 4.

Queen of Hearts Conference Call Thursday 2/2/12

There will be a phone meeting on Thursday, February 2nd at 7pm to discuss the stage decorations for the Queen of Hearts pageant. Please join the call if you are interested in helping. District II Honor Band Date Change

Please note the following date change for District Honor Band, from our district chairman:

We are happy to announce that District Honor Band will be held on MARCH 9th -10th. The location is still at Albertville High School. The schedule is:
FRIDAY
8:30 am to 9 - Registration
9:00 to Noon - Rehearsal #1
Noon to 1:30pm - Lunch
1:30 to 4:00 - Rehearsal #2
4 to 6 - Dinner
6 to 8 - Rehearsal #3
SATURDAY
9 am to Noon - Rehearsal #4 (Middle School & High School Bands switch rehearsal locations)
3:00 pm - Concert

As we have all discovered, the weather may have its way upon our plans. So, just be flexible...

Pageant Volunteers Needed

Dear Band Parents and Guardians:

A message from our pageant fundraiser team leader:

Queen of Hearts will be here before we know it! The most important detail is the part you will play in this pageant. We have received comments and notes from some volunteers, but we need more. The more volunteers, the smoother the pageant runs.

Here are the teams of volunteers we need to build. Ideally we will have one person in charge with a team working with them. If you volunteer to be in charge of a team, I will make sure you know EXACTLY what needs to be done so it doesn’t matter if you haven’t done a specific task before.

Decorations of the stage
Concession Stand - Kim
Tickets – Jimmy and Alice
Hall Monitors/Door Guards/Room Monitors
Photographer
Registration
Escorts of the girls to/from the stage
Hospitality for the judges (they will need a light dinner)

Chaperones Needed Saturday, 1/7/12

Dear Moody Band Parents and Guardians:

If your student has signed up to work at the bagging-for-tips fundraiser at Food Giant tomorrow, please stay to help chaperone a portion of the activity with your child. Having many chaperones throughout the day will make lighter work for all and will offer relief to those who would otherwise have to sacrifice an entire Saturday.
