SCC Band Expo Date Change II

Please disregard the previous post about the St. Clair Band Expo 2011 date change. The organizers are now keeping the original September 15 expo date with no plans for a rain date. All times remain the same. Apologies for any confusion this may have caused. We are now set to attend the expo on September 15. Please mark your calendars!

Schedule for the Week of 8/29/11-9/2/11 (Marching Members)

Monday, 8/29/11: After-School 3:00-5:00

Tuesday, 8/30/11: MJHS Pep Rally 2:30 (Playing Members and MJHS auxiliaries Only)
After-School Rehearsal 3:00-5:00 (All Marchers and Auxiliaries)

Wednesday, 8/31/11: No After School

Thursday, 9/1/11: After School 3:00-5:00

Friday, 9/2/11: MHS vs. Briarwood, Home, 7:00 pm. Students dismissed from school at 3:00 pm. Call time in band room, 6:00 pm. Full uniform.

Please have all rides at the band room by 5:00 pm after each rehearsal and by 10:30 pm after this week's game.

2011 SCC Band Expo Date Change Please Note!!!!

The St. Clair County Band Expo at SCCHS has been rescheduled for Tuesday, September 13. Thursday, September 15 will now serve as a rain date for the event. We will leave MHS at approximately 5:00 pm. The event lasts from 6:00 until 8:00 pm with final return and unloading at MHS by 9:00 pm. More details will follow.

Chaperone and Concession Worker List

If you are working tonight's game as a band chaperone, concession worker,or equipment volunteer, please RSVP to by 3:00 pm today so your name may be placed on the workers' admission list at the gate. Chaperones, please also respond to Rhonda Marsh at to let her know of your wish to chaperone at games. Mrs. Marsh will be assisting in chaperone scheduling for the season.

Jamboree Game vs. Springville 8/18/11

Reminder!! Jamboree game vs. Springville Thursday, 8/18/11. Call time 6:00 pm, band room. Game time 7:00. Uniform: 2011 band t-shirt with khaki pants or khaki shorts. Tennis shoes with socks.

The band will march back to the band room after halftime to stow equipment and for dismissal. Please have rides ready at the band room by 8:30 pm.

County Band Expo and SCC Honor Band Info 2011-2012

MHS marching band and auxiliaries:
Below is a portion of a message from SCCHS band director, Mr. Cornutt. SCCHS is hosting the band expo this fall and hosting the SCC honor band in the spring. Please read the information and respond to the ad sales agreement if you wish to place an ad in the expo program. Ad sales sheets are available on the Yahoo Groups site.

Expo-September 15th (rain date Sept. 13th)
Pictures/artwork [for expo program ads] should be sent to by August 19th. The money is also due on the 19th. We [SCCHS band boosters] will provide receipts.

>Every band has a free 1/2 page ad in the full color program.

>Wayne Broom will be at the Expo selling shirts. Shirts will be available at the Expo for one price or for presale and a discount.

>The first band will perform at 6:00 pm. Each band will have 20 min to get on and off the field. Exhibition band will perform at 8:00.

Honor Band-March 13, 16, 17
>Honor band will be 7th-9th grade (Jr. High) only.

>My intention is to provide students with a one hour master class as part of their honor band experience.

>The schedule should be similar to other years.

>We will have chair placements NOT auditions. I [Mr. Cornutt] will provide that information at a more appropriate time.

Rehearsal Absences

Because of a significant number of absences of late, and in fairness to those members who have faithfully attended rehearsals, any band or auxiliary member having missed evening practice on Thursday, 8/11/11, regardless of reason, will be required to pass-off the routine or show music for Dr. Sargent or individually perform the routine for the appropriate auxiliary sponsor by Tuesday, 8/16/11, at 5:00 pm.

Playing members involved will have the option of remaining after school on Monday, 8/15/11, to play and march drill sets for Dr. Sargent. Please notify Dr. Sargent in advance if this is your option of choice by e-mailing to

Any student failing to perform the pass-off successfully, as determined by the faculty member, will dress in the specified uniform and observe the halftime performance from the sideline at Thursday evening's jamboree game.

The goal of the band director and auxiliary sponsors is to produce a quality ensemble, capable of instilling pride in the community and serving as a worthwhile endeavor for all participants. This can only be accomplished with adequate attendance from all members. Every member of the ensemble is important. The cooperation of parents and students in this matter will be appreciated.

St. Clair County Band Expo 2011 Info

A file has been posted to Yahoo Groups containing an ad sales sheet for the upcoming SCC Band expo to be held at SCCHS. Anyone wishing to place an ad may follow the instructions on the sales sheet and submit by August 19 to the SCCHS Band Boosters. All checks should be made payable to St. Clair County High School.

Please note: This is not the same ad sales sheet as our own football program ad sheet, which was due yesterday, Wednesday, 8/10/11.

Concession Workday This Saturday, 8/13/11

The band boosters will hold a concession stand workday this Saturday, 8/13/11, 8:00 am to 10:00 am. Items on the agenda include:

1.) light painting

2.) Weed eating

3.) Bathrooms cleaned

4.) Glass cleaned

Call for Participation

A message from interim band booster president, Ronnie Adkins:

Dear Band Parents,

The 2011-2012 school year looks to be exciting for our band students, dance line, majorettes, and color guard. You may have heard me say that I didn’t realize until I got involved how much money and effort it takes to run a band program. You may have also heard me say that it takes all of us working together to help make our children successful. It still amazes me how true these statements are and I hear new people saying the same thing.

I want to be careful here. I don’t want this email to sound whiny or critical, but I intend for it to be just the real facts. I want to thank each of you who have contributed in any way. However, we have some gaps to close. We have some set ways to help in raising funds for the band program such as concessions, poinsettia sales, and the Queen of Hearts Pageant. (We are funding the band on a shoestring at about $30,000.00 a year.) We are working on other general fund raisers. If we don’t all pitch in then we all will have to pay more or cut out going to away games, competitions, feeding kids, and many other things. Band expenses are continuing to rise and we are just trying to keep up.

General needs:

1.) 2 Concession stand co-managers for home games.

2.) We need some counter repair and light painting at the concession stand before the first game on the 18th.

Needed from every family:

1.) Someone from every family to work at least one game in the concession stand.

2.) To fill out the team form and volunteer to help. (Team form available in the band room and in our Yahoo Groups link)

3.) Help with fund-raisers.

4.) Pitch in on work days.

5.) Help in any other way you can.


Football Program Ads are due. I have extended the deadline until Wednesday. We still can sell some ads. Forms are available in the band room.

Concession Volunteers Reminder

Reminder: Concession workday is tomorrow (Saturday), 8/6/11, from 8:00 am until 12:00 noon. Parents and guardians of band members are needed to help clean and paint in the concession stand in preparation for the coming season. The band booster concession stand is one of our major sources of income for the year. Any help is appreciated. Please e-mail if you plan to attend.
