Band Boosters This Tuesday

I offer apologies for the automatic Yahoo Group notification sent out last week with the incorrect band booster meeting date. Because of spring break, band boosters will now meet this Tuesday, 3/22/11 at 6:30 pm in the band room. Topics include preparation for the upcoming marching season, a possible short spring trip, and plans for a larger band trip for next year. Please make plans to attend!

Auxiliary Clinics Begin Monday

Reminder:
Band auxiliary clinics begin this Monday, 3/21/11 and continue each day through Thursday. Tryouts take place after school on Friday, 3/25. All students, including dance and majorette candidates, must successfully make colorguard tryouts before proceeding to other tryouts.

Please remember to bring an up-to-date physical on Monday. The physical must be dated by the physician within this calendar year. In addition, all other paperwork from the clinic packet plus tryout fees made payable to the Moody Band Boosters are due on the first day of clinic. Clinics end promptly at 5:00 pm each day and will not run over. Rides should arrive at the band room no later than 5:00.

Best wishes to all candidates. Thank you for your hard work and desire to make the Moody band program the best it can be!

Troy University Clarinet Day

The following message was forwarded to me from Troy University. If you wish to take part in clarinet day, please request an application and information via e-mail to brad.sargent@sccboe.org. I will respond with the attachment.

Dear Band Director,

Your clarinet students are invited to Troy University Clarinet Day on April 2,
2011. Details and a registration form are attached to this email. Please feel free to give this to any students you think would be interested.

Traditionally, this event has only been for grades 9-12. But, recently I have had many ask if 8th graders could attend too. So, if you have interested 8th graders, please let them know that they are welcome.

This year, my guests will be J. David Harris (Clarinet Professor from the
University of Illinois), Alcides Rodriguez (Bass Clarinetist from the Atlanta Symphony), and Gabor Varga (Principal Clarinetist of the Hungarian Radio Orchestra). Also joining us will be the Busan Clarinet Quartet from South Korea and Wolfgang Lohff, a clarinet acoustics and repair specialist from Denmark.

At Clarinet Day, your students will play in a big clarinet choir with high school and college students from Alabama, Georgia, and Florida. They will also attend master classes and clinics… and they will have an opportunity to try many excellent clarinets and accessories. It is my hope that they will return to your band with newfound enthusiasm.

As always, if I can be of any help to you, please do not hesitate to let me know.

Sincerely,

Tim

UNA Honor Band

I am passing this message along from Lloyd Jones, UNA Director of Bands. If you wish to apply, please do so via the link in the message. Do not reply to Yahoo Groups.

From Dr. Jones:

Hello All,

Applications for the 2011 UNA Invitational Honor Band will be accepted through March 18 . I have recently been contacted by numerous directors who, because of incredibly busy schedules, simply have not had time to provide students with the paperwork.

Applications are available online at www.una.edu/universitybands/ , under "upcoming events."

We will host 2 Junior High Bands (evenly split), a 9th-grade Band, and 2 Senior High Bands (an approximately 65-member top band, and approximately 90-member second band). We have a great line-up of conductors, including, Garry Taylor, Terry Ownby, and Steve Price. Other conductors will be announced as soon as plans are finalized.

Registration and placement auditions will take place Thursday afternoon (April 28) with a rehearsal to follow. Friday will be comprised of a morning and afternoon rehearsal. All participants and directors are invited to the Friday evening President's Concert featuring the UNA Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Studio Jazz Band, and Percussion Ensemble. Saturday morning we'll have a shorts rehearsal and then the UNAHB Concert at 11:00 a.m. All the festivities will conclude around 1:00p.m. and allow plenty of weekend for us all!

Thanks to all of you who have already sent in student applications - possibly you'll have a few more who now have an opportunity to participate. I look forward to hearing from everyone and your students in the near future. Let me know if I can be of assistance to you!
