Additional Thoughts and Reminders for Mid-South
Good morning band,
Our time in the stands today is likely to be spent in the sun and heat. Please come prepared. You are allowed and encouraged to pack sunglasses, a sun hat, and sunscreen. Your travel uniform should consist of the 2010 band t-shirt, shorts, jeans or khakis, socks, and tennis shoes. We will bring water with us but cannot carry an unlimited quantity. You may wish to bring a Camel-bak or thermos bottle (water only) for your personal use. We will have opportunities for chaperoned visits to the concession stands, so you may want to bring some extra spending money.
A reminder: We are attending the Mid-South festival as an ensemble on a board-approved field trip. As such, we function as a coherent unit. For your safety and for group solidarity, we remain together throughout the day. Any student wishing to deviate from our band's assigned location must do so only with the approval of a tagged chaperone, sponsor, or Dr. Sargent. Any student caught disobeying this rule is subject to consequences which may include placement on non-performing status or removal from the band or squad.
Let's work together to make today a successful, safe, and enjoyable experience. I look forward to seeing you in the band room at 11:30 sharp. Be sure to eat something before you arrive, and stay hydrated with plenty of water!

Article of Note
An Op-Ed article from a Kalamazoo, MI newspaper, great for all to read, but especially for parents of 8th grade band members and those 7th graders who wish to "march up" next year:

Calendar Update
The Calendar has been updated through August 2011, using Dr. Sargent's recently revised schedule from Yahoo Groups. Some events are labeled "all day" when they really are "TBA". I will update more specific times when they are available. You can copy events to your own Google Calendar by clicking on events > "copy to my calendar".
Error on General Schedule
Please note the error on the newly revised general schedule, available on Yahoo Groups and in hard copy at the band room:
The Mid-South festival in Gadsden is on Saturday, 9/25/10, not Sunday, 9/26/10.
Thank you!

No After-School Practice Monday
Band, Auxiliaries and Sponsors,
I just received a message requiring my attendance at an after-school faculty meeting tomorrow (Monday, 9/13/10). We will therefore be unable to hold after-school band practice. Please be prepared to leave school at the 3:00 pm bell.
A clarification: My previous message may have been confusing. Buses will be transporting us to and from the band expo on Tuesday evening. To be clear, my message should have read, "Students who will have difficulty getting a ride back to school between 3:00 dismissal and 4:30 roll call should let me know." Ideally, all students should be able to find a ride to the band room for roll call after having left the school, but if not, we need to make arrangements.
Thank you!

Concession Work Day This Thursday, 9/2/10
Volunteers are needed for a concession stand clean-up at the football stadium tomorrow (Thursday) 9/2/10, at 6:00 pm. This is the final cleanup before our home games begin next week, and the concession stand is a significant source of funding for the band boosters, so this is an important evening. Many hands make light work, and all help is appreciated.
